Creative Worker Visa (Temporary Work) – September 2025 Update

Overview
For creative industry professionals with UK job offers (actors, dancers, musicians, film crew etc.)
Replaces former T5 (Temporary Worker - Creative and Sporting) visa
Sportspeople must apply for International Sportsperson visa
Sponsorship Requirements
Must have Certificate of Sponsorship from licensed UK sponsor
Work must relate to sponsor's business activities
Application Timeline
Earliest application: 3 months before work start date on Certificate of Sponsorship
Processing times:
Outside UK: Usually 3 weeks
Inside UK: Usually 8 weeks

Costs & Financial Requirements
Application fee: £319 (inside/outside UK)
Immigration Health Surcharge: £1,035/year
Maintenance funds: £1,270 personal savings
Held 28 consecutive days
28-day period ends within 31 days of application
Exempt if:
UK resident with valid visa for 12+ months
Employer certifies support for first month (up to £1,270)
Visa Validity, Rights & Restrictions
Stay Duration: 12 months maximum OR CoS period + 28 days (whichever shorter)
Arrival: No earlier than 14 days before work start date on CoS
Permitted:
✓ Work described in CoS
✓ Study (ATAS required for some courses)
✓ Second job in same field/level (≤20 hours/week)
✓ Skilled Worker Immigration Salary List job as second employment (≤20 hours/week)
✓ Bring eligible spouse/children
Not Permitted:
✗ Public funds
✗ Self-employment
Eligibility Requirements
Unique contribution to UK labour market (international recognition/project continuity)
Valid Certificate of Sponsorship reference number
Meet sector minimum rates (except models/musicians/circus performers)
Sufficient funds (unless exempt)
Employer must pay at least National Minimum Wage
CoS valid for 3 months from issue
Changing Sponsors
Must reapply and meet all eligibility requirements
Does not extend total UK stay period
Multiple Jobs
Single CoS can cover multiple engagements
Need separate CoS from each sponsor
Maximum 14-day gap between different jobs (absences excluded)
Required Documents
Certificate of Sponsorship reference number
Valid passport
Financial evidence (unless employer supported)
Relationship evidence for dependants
TB test results (if required)
Certified translations for non-English/Welsh documents

UK Immigration: ID Check app OR
Biometric appointment (fingerprints/photo)
Inside UK applications only for extending existing Creative Worker visa
Dependants
Eligible: Spouse/civil partner/unmarried partner (2+ years cohabitation)/children under 18
Additional funds required:
Partner: £285
First child: £315
Each additional child: £200
Apply separately using main applicant's reference number
Rights: Work (except professional sport)/study/travel freely
UK-born children: Not automatically British - require dependant visa
Extending Your Visa
Must continue meeting all requirements
Apply before current visa expires
Cannot extend if entered with concession
Maximum Extension:
Changing sponsor: New CoS period + 14 days OR reach 12 months total
Same sponsor: New CoS period + 14 days OR 12 months OR reach 24 months total
Processing: Usually 8 weeks
Creative Worker Concession
Eligible if:
Valid Creative Worker Certificate of Sponsorship
Working in UK ≤3 months
Nationality doesn't normally need visa for visitor entry
Requirements:
Must meet all standard eligibility criteria
Usually need Electronic Travel Authorisation
Entry Process:
Face immigration officer (no e-passport gates)
Officer verifies CoS/funds/ETA
Entry stamp required to work legally
Remote clearance required if entering from Ireland/Channel Islands/Isle of Man (apply 72+ hours before)
Concession Dependants: Eligible if visa-exempt visitors (usually need ETA)
Key Considerations
High threshold: "Unique contribution" requires international recognition/specialist skills
Sponsorship essential: Must have licensed UK sponsor invitation
Sector-specific wages: Often higher than National Minimum Wage
Limited supplementary work: Same field second job permitted
Concession precautions: Must obtain entry stamp for work authorization
Complex extension rules: Different limits based on sponsor change (12/24 month caps)
