Life in the UK Test – September 2025 Update
The Life in the UK Test is an English language test generally required for those applying for indefinite leave to remain (settlement) or British citizenship. The content is relatively straightforward, covering British history, culture, and customs.
Important: You must pass the test and obtain a unique reference number to include in your settlement or citizenship application. Book online through the official website at least 3 days in advance. The test fee is £50.
1. Test Requirements
Purpose: Mandatory step for most UK settlement and citizenship applications.
Booking: Must book online via the official website only, at least 3 days in advance. Fee: £50.
Booking link: https://www.lituktestbooking.co.uk/lituk-web/Content: Based on the official handbook "Guide for New Residents". The test consists of 24 questions to be answered in 45 minutes; a score of 75% (18 correct answers) is required to pass.
2. Preparation & Booking
Study Materials: Official handbook available in print, ebook, and audio formats. Official online learning subscriptions and practice apps are also available.

3. On Test Day
Bring: Original photo ID used for booking (copies not accepted).
Photograph: A photo will be taken at the test centre for identity verification. Refusal will result in being unable to take the test with no refund.
Prohibited: Children or other family members are not allowed inside the test centre.
4. Test Results
Pass: Receive a unique reference number for your settlement/citizenship application.
Fail: You can retake the test by rebooking and paying the fee again. Unlimited retakes allowed.
5. Cancellations, Rescheduling & Refunds

Eligible: Cancelled at least 3 days (72 hours) before test; test cancelled by the test centre.
Not Eligible: Cancelled/rescheduled within 3 days of test; missed test due to incorrect ID, illness, lateness, or refusal to be photographed.
Claim Refund: Contact test provider PSI within 3 months of your test date.
6. Exemptions
You are exempt if you are:
Under 18 or aged 65+
Have already passed this test
Have a long-term physical or mental condition preventing you from taking the test (medical evidence or exemption form required)
