Key Features
Replaces former Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa
No cap on numbers
No employer sponsorship required
Flexible work rights (employment/self-employment/business)
Fastest settlement path: Eligible for ILR in 3 years (research/established leader)
Unlimited extensions (1-5 years per extension)
Eligibility
Must be:
Aged 18 or over
Active in one of these fields:
Academic research
Arts and culture
Digital technology
Application routes:
Prestigious Prize Route
Hold specified awards (Nobel Prize, Turing Award etc.)
Direct visa application (no endorsement needed)
Endorsement Route
Require endorsement from approved body
Must prove you're a leader or potential leader in your field
Visa Duration & Settlement
Initial visa: Up to 5 years
Extensions: Unlimited (choose 1-5 years each time)
Settlement:
3 years: Academic research/established leaders
5 years: Arts/culture/digital technology/potential leaders
Application Process & Costs
Two-stage process (Endorsement Route):
Endorsement application (£561)
Visa application (£205) within 3 months of endorsement
Prestigious Prize Route: Single application (£766)
Additional costs:
Immigration Health Surcharge: £1,035 per person per year
Priority services available (extra fee)
Processing times:
Outside UK: 3 weeks
Inside UK: 8 weeks

Valid passport
Tuberculosis certificate (if applicable)
Endorsement letter (if applying via endorsement route)
Certified translations for non-English/Welsh documents
Dependants
Eligible: Spouse/civil partner/unmarried partner/children under 18
Relationship evidence:
Partners: Marriage certificate OR 2+ years cohabitation proof
Children: Birth certificates + address proof
Costs: £766 application fee + IHS per dependant
Rights: Work (except professional sport), study, settle after 5 years

Student visa holders must:
Have completed sponsored course OR
Be PhD students with ≥24 months completed study
