Graduate Visa – October 2025 Update

Visa Duration
Bachelor's or Master's degree: 2 years
PhD/Doctorate: 3 years
From 1 January 2027: Graduate visa for Bachelor's/Master's will be reduced to 18 months (PhD remains 3 years)
Eligibility Requirements
You must meet all of the following:
Apply inside the UK
Hold a valid Student visa or Tier 4 (General) student visa
Successfully complete an eligible UK course (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, etc.)
Your education provider must have notified Home Office of your successful completion
Meet study duration requirements:
Ø Courses >12 months: Must have studied in UK for at least 12 months
Ø Courses <12 months: Must have completed entire course in UK
Ø COVID-19 concession: Specific periods of remote study may count as UK study*
When to Apply
Apply before your current Student visa expires
You can apply as soon as your university informs Home Office of your completion
No need to wait for graduation ceremony or physical certificate
Costs
Application fee: £880
Immigration Health Surcharge:
Ø £1,035 per year
Ø 2-year visa: £2,070 total
Ø 3-year visa: £3,105 total
Health and Care Workers: May qualify for cheaper Health and Care Worker visa and can claim IHS refund

Valid passport/travel document
CAS reference number from your Student visa application
Proof of current Student visa (e.g., eVisa share code)

Claim most public funds/state pension

Eligible dependants on your current Student visa can apply simultaneously
Each dependant needs separate application and fees
Their visa validity will match yours
Application Process
Apply online
Verify identity via UK Immigration: ID Check app or biometric appointment
Submit documents
Decision usually within 8 weeks
Do not leave UK, Ireland, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man while application pending
Important Notes
Successful applicants receive eVisa (no BRP card)
UK-born children don't automatically get British citizenship – need dependant visa for travel
Notify UKVI if personal circumstances change (address, marital status, etc.)
Must have studied at UK government-recognised institution and obtained degree
Must have complied with all visa conditions during studies:
Ø No excessive absences from studies
Ø No unauthorized work (e.g., exceeding 20 hours/week)
Ø No breach of work restrictions
No cap on numbers – all eligible applicants can obtain visa
Can switch to other work visas if you find eligible employment
