Key Features

  • Exempt from Immigration Health Surcharge

  • Settlement pathway: Eligible for      ILR after 5 years continuous residence

  • Renewable with unlimited extensions

 

Eligibility Requirements

All criteria must be met:

Job Role:

  • Qualified doctor, nurse, health professional or adult social      care professional

  • Role must be in eligible occupation codes (see list below)

  • Must have job offer from approved sponsor

Eligible Occupation Codes:
1171, 1232, 2113, 2114, 2211, 2212, 2221, 2222, 2223, 2224, 2225, 2226, 2229, 2231, 2232, 2233, 2234, 2235, 2236, 2237, 2251, 2252, 2253, 2254, 2255, 2256, 2259, 2461, 3111, 3212, 6131

Medium-skilled roles for extensions/switching (must have worked for sponsor ≥3 months):
6135: Care workers and home carers
6136: Senior care workers

Historical medium-skilled roles (if CoS issued before 22 July 2025):
1231, 3211, 3213, 3219, 6132, 6133

Employer:

  • Home Office-approved (NHS, NHS providers, adult social care      organisations)

  • Must provide Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) reference number

Salary Requirements:

  • Standard£31,300/year OR      going rate (whichever higher)

  • Specific roles (e.g., care      workers, lab technicians): £25,000/year OR going rate

  • Discounts available (70-90% of      going rate) if salary ≥£25,000 for:

    • Under 26s/students/recent graduates

    • STEM PhD holders

    • Postdoctoral researchers

English Language:

  • CEFR B1 level required

  • Approved test/UK qualification/English-taught degree

  • Exemptions: Majority-English      country nationals, regulated doctors/dentists/nurses/midwives

 

Costs & Financial Requirements

Application Fees:

  • ≤3 years: £304

  • 3 years: £590

Maintenance Funds:

  • £1,270 personal savings held      for 28 consecutive days

  • Exempt if:

    • UK resident for 12+ months

    • Employer certifies support for first month

  • CoS reference number

  • English language proof

  • Financial evidence

  • Criminal record certificate (if required)

  • Job role and salary evidence

  • Dependant relationship proof

 

Application Process

 

Dependants

  • Eligible: Spouse/civil      partner/unmarried partner/children under 18

  • Additional funds required:

    • Partner: £285

    • First child: £315

    • Each additional child: £200

  • Important restriction (from 11      March 2024):

    • New Care Workers/Senior Care Workers (6135/6136): Cannot bring dependants

    • Existing visa holders may maintain dependant rights under       specific conditions

 

Visa Duration & Settlement

  • Maximum initial grant: 5 years

  • Extensions: Unlimited (if      requirements met)

  • Settlement: Eligible after 5 years      continuous residence

 

Permitted Activities

  • Work in sponsored role

  • Study

  • Volunteer

  • Travel freely

  • Supplementary work (≤20 hours/week under specific conditions)

  • Claim most public funds

  • Change jobs/employers without visa update

 

Special Circumstances

Changing Jobs/Employers: Must update visa

Switching to This Visa:

  • Possible from most UK visas (except Visitor/Parent of Child      Student etc.)

  • Must have worked for sponsor for ≥3 months (if switching)

Supplementary Work:

  • ≤20 hours/week in additional role (specific conditions apply)

  • 20 hours requires visa update
