When writing an English essay, you may occasionally make grammar mistakes that you don’t notice yourself. It’s not always feasible to ask friends or teachers to check your work regularly. Nearly every university has free tutoring services for its students. For example, besides maths tutoring, computer science tutoring, and entrepreneurship tutoring, our university also has dedicated tutors in a dissertation support department. However, since there are only a few such tutors, you need to book an appointment several weeks in advance, and slots are always fully booked. I have made appointments a few times myself. Of course, the main focus of dissertation tutoring is grammar guidance—not helping you write or revise the essay itself.
At times like this, it would be great to have a free online grammar checking tool—preferably one that is secure and doesn’t store your data.
This grammar and spelling checking tool is one I use quite often. It’s free and can be used for online checks, or offline checks after downloading the software (though online use is more common). However, I need to remind you: when using this grammar checker, don’t blindly trust the errors it flags. First, check if there are any inconsistencies between your original content and the software’s suggestions, then decide whether to adopt the revisions. This is because the tool can also make mistakes, marking your originally correct content as needing changes.
