A5.2 University and Subject Rankings

UK University Rankings, Subject Rankings, and World University Rankings
  1. QS World University Rankings
The QS World University Rankings are currently the most commonly seen and      discussed world rankings. QS stands for Quacquarelli Symonds, a British      educational organisation. Its world rankings are notable for encompassing      a very wide range of fields in its assessment criteria, making it the      largest world university ranking. Furthermore, it also provides      subject-specific rankings for universities worldwide. A particularly      useful feature of QS is the ability to compare universities from around      the world online. The initial QS World Rankings were published jointly by      QS and the Times Higher Education organisation. After 2010, QS and Times      Higher Education began publishing their own separate world rankings.

  2. Times Higher Education World University Rankings
Times Higher Education (THE) is also a British publication. It was      formerly part of The Times newspaper      but was later sold off independently. This world university ranking      primarily judges and ranks universities based on knowledge transfer,      teaching quality, research, and internationalisation. In addition to      overall university rankings, it also provides world subject rankings.

  3. The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide
Published by the British newspapers The Times and The Sunday Times, The Times ranking is essentially the      primary choice for looking at UK university rankings. It is one of the      three major authoritative UK ranking tables. It mainly assesses      universities based on academic excellence, research, teaching quality, and      more. It provides detailed reports for each university, including specific      scores, and also includes subject rankings for each institution. Ten-Litre      Cat recommends consulting this ranking alongside the Times Higher      Education ranking mentioned below.

  4. The Guardian University Guide
Published by the British newspaper The Guardian, The Guardian university ranking is also one      of the three major authoritative UK rankings. It scores universities based      on a comprehensive consideration of factors such as graduation rates,      graduate career prospects, student satisfaction, and teaching environment.      It provides detailed information on each university's student gender      ratio, age demographics, proportion of international students, tuition      fees, and more. Furthermore, you can see specific subject rankings for      each institution.

  5. The Complete University Guide (CUG)
The CUG is also one of the three major authoritative UK rankings. It is a      UK university ranking published by The Independent newspaper. It provides a detailed      profile for each university, considering factors like student population      statistics, gender balance, level of study, teaching intensity, and      university facilities/services in its scoring. It also clearly lists the      UCAS code for each university.
